  12. 1) Introduction
  13.  
  14. Dominoes For Windows is fun and challenging. The actual name of the game is 
  15. called Sniff. Even if you've never heard of Sniff you probably know how
  16. to play the game. Sniff is the most popular Domino game of them all.
  17.  
  18. Dominoes is shareware. That is to say, it's not free. Shareware
  19. is a means of marketing software for those of us who don't have a crack
  20. marketing department with a huge budget. 
  21.  
  22. The basic premise is that you get to try out the software before you buy it. 
  23. Once you've tried the product, and decided it is worth the cost, you send 
  24. in your registration fee and will receive the latest, greatest version of 
  25. the software. This process is known as Shareware Registration. 
  26.  
  27. In this case the latest and greatest version has some of the annoying aspects
  28. of the shareware version taken out. Such as, the logo screen does not 
  29. appear in-between ever game you play, the game loads **much** faster than 
  30. the shareware version, and you get a free game when you register.
  31.  
  32. The registration price is $19.95 plus S/H. There are three ways to register:
  33.  
  34.     1) Cash, Check or Money Order
  35.         When the program first starts click on the Cash Order
  36.         button and fill out and print the order form. Mail the
  37.         order form and the amount due in the form of Cash, Check

  84. 2) Installation
  85.  
  86. Aside from the ZIP file DOMINO.ZIP you will need one other file to
  87. successfully install and run Dominoes. You will need:
  88.  
  89.     VBRUN300.DLL
  90.  
  91. VBRUN300.DLL is the run-time module needed to run all programs written in
  92. the language Visual Basic. VBRUN300.DLL can be found on all on-line 
  93. services, or you can get it off my homepage on the World Wide Web. It is 
  94. usually stored as VBRUN3.ZIP. Once you have VBRUN300.DLL uncompress it nad
  95. put this file in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

  97. Installing Dominoes is pretty easy. 
  98.  
  99.     Windows 3.1
  100.         If you have the files on a disk in drive
  101.         A: you would select Run from the File menu of the 
  102.         Program Manager and then type in A:\setup and hit
  103.         the Enter key.
  104.  
  105.         If the files are in a directory on your hard drive
  106.         you can Double-Click on the SETUP.EXE file from the
  107.         File Manager.
  108.  
  109.     Windows 95
  110.         If you have the files on a disk in drive
  111.         A: you would select Run from the Start menu of the 
  112.         Windows 95 Task Bar and then type in A:\setup and hit
  113.         the Enter key.
  114.  
  115.         If the files are in a directory on your hard drive
  116.         you can Right-Click (click the right mouse button)
  117.         on the SETUP.EXE file from the Explorer and then select 
  118.         Open from the menu that appears.
  119.  
  120.     File Description
  121.         Below is a list of the files that are in the archive file
  122.         DOMINO.ZIP. The files that end in an underscore (_) are in a
  123.         compressed state and can not be used until they are 
  124.         uncompressed by the setup program.

  126.         SETUP.EXE  Setup initialization (Run this to set up program)
  127.         SETUP.LST  Used by setup program 
  128.         SETUPKIT.DL_  Used by setup program
  129.         VER.DL_   Used by setup program
  130.         SETUP1.EX_  The set up program

  132.         DOMINOES.EX_  The executable Dominoes game
  133.         DOMINOES.HL_  Dominoes Help file
  134.         FILE_ID.DIZ  File identification file
  135.         README.TXT  This readme file

  144. If you have Windows 95 and the setup program can't create the folders and
  145. icons then reboot your PC and run the setup again. When this happens the
  146. program is installed but the setup program was unable to establish a DDE 
  147. link with Windows to create the Folders and Icons. You can still run the 
  148. game by double-clicking on the file DOMINOES.EXE that was installed by the 
  149. setup program.

  151. If the setup program fails to run after you see the "Initializing Setup"
  152. window come up then reboot your PC and run the setup program again.

  183. 6) What's New
  184.  
  185. Version 2.2
  186. In this version there is a bug fix that repairs a problem that occasionally 
  187. occured where the game would not recognize when you had played your last
  188. bone. This meant that you had to keep drawing from the bone pile even after
  189. you had played out your hand.
  190.  
  191. Also, The Left, Right, Up, Down buttons now support continuous scroll. If you
  192. press the button and hold down the mouse the table will continue to scroll
  193. until you lift up on the button. Finally, you are given a little more leeway 
  194. when dropping bones on the table. You do not need to be as exact in the 
  195. placement of the bone when dropping inorder for the game to recognize that
  196. it is a valid play.
  197.  
  198. Version 2.3
  199. Fixed an error in scoring. When a player has played all of their bones the
  200. remaining points in their opponents are added to their hand. Where this is 
  201. true it is not entirly accurate. The real rule is that the remaining points
  202. in the opponents hand should be rounded to the nearest multiple of 5 before
  203. the points are added to the score.
  204.  
  205. Also with scoring. When a deal ended in a draw the next deal was started
  206. with no peanalty points being scored for having bones left in your hand. The
  207. rule is that the person with the fewest remaining points will score the
  208. remaining points in their opponents hand, rounded to a multiple of 5.
  209.  
  210. Added the menu option "Bones Played". This option will allow you to easily
  211. view all of the bones that have been played in the current deal.
  212.  
  213. When selecting a bone from the bone pile you will be alerted if you already
  214. have a playable bone in your hand. Also, right-clicking on the Bone Pile
  215. button will tell you how many bones remain in the pile.
  216.  
  217. Right-clicking on the table scroll buttons will quickly move you to one
  218. table end or the other.
